Arts and Sciences Fair and Pentathlon (Angels)

The Caid Arts & Sciences Fair and Pentathlon is quickly approaching! We will once again host a weekend event dedicated to the arts of Caid. In addition to the arts fair activities, there will be fighting, camping, and a weekend of revelry to celebrate the artisans of our realm.

Art War!
Site will open to the general populace at 3pm on the Friday of Pentathalon for camp set up. We need to be off site by 5pm Sunday.
There will be fighting!! We will have 2 large fighting areas set up for Rapier, Armored and Unarmored as marshals become available. There will be a rapier melee on Saturday and a Pas for armored on Saturday afternoon. We will also have thrown weapons!
So please come and support the artisans of our great kingdom and have get some great fighting in!

Event Location: Schmidt Park: 13576 Mustang Road, Victorville, CA 92395

Camping will be available for those that wish to do so. The site will open at noon on Friday for camp set up. There are plenty of hotels within 15 minutes of site if you prefer not to camp (see list on http://pentathlon.sca-caid.org).

Registration information: (includes both events):
Camping: Adult member $20, Adult non-member $25, Teen (13-17) $10, Children 12 and under are guests of the event.

Non-Camping: Adult member $7 for one day or $10 for the weekend. Adult non-member $12 for one day or $15 for the weekend. Teen (13-17) $3 for one day or $5 for the weekend.
Children 12 and under are guests of the event.

Saturday, March 25th – Kingdom Arts & Sciences Fair and Pentathlon Judging,
heavy weapons and rapier fighting.

Sunday, March 26th – Arts & Sciences People’s Choice Competition, Court to announce
Competition Results. Site closes at 2pm.

Competition Registration Deadline: Sunday, January 15th, 2017

King’s Hunt (Carreg Wen)

The Shire of Carreg Wen invites you to join us for the Kings Hunt. This year we are forced to have a one-day event.

The site is at the beautiful Nojoqui Falls County Park, 3250 Alisal Rd, Goleta, CA 93117.

There are lots of large shade trees and a nearby play area for littles. There will be no camping, and unfortunately, no merchants.

There will be heavies and rapier fighting.

Schedule:
The site opens at 8am.
Lists open at 9:30am.
Opening court at 10am.
The site closes at 6pm.

Registration is $15 for non-members, $10 for members, $5 for youth under 14.

Directions: From the North: take Hwy 101 south (pass Buellton) to Old Coast Rd (on the left side), then turn left on Alisal Rd. Park is on the right.

Newbie Knockabout (Wintermist)

Come one and come all to a day celebrating the newest and longest fighting fighters in Caid! There will be two tournaments throughout the day, a Knewbie Knockabout that features fighters with two years or less Authorized Fighting experience!

The Second Tournament, to be run in conjunction will be the Greybeard Tournament, featuring fighters 35 years of age and older! This will be classified as a Double Elimination Tournament. There will be activities for everyone including “Illumination on Site” for Thank You Cards with the winner being chosen by Her Excellency, Kalé.

For youth involvement, there will be a scavenger hunt and a prize for the winner! (Must be of “youth” age to compete, 12 and younger please!)

Schedule for the Day: Site Opens at 8:00 AM for the General Populace, Opening Court will begin at 10:00 or Their Excellencies’ Leisure. Site Closes at 4:00 PM. Everything must be off-site.

Arts and Sciences: Knewbie Knockabout is the proud holder of the first installment to determine the Arts and Sciences Champion of Wintermist. The categories and qualifications are as follows:

• Open – you can choose any medium or technique that follows the assigned theme.
• Functional item – You will build/make something functional using material that will be assigned. You can build a box from wood (or leather
• Decorative item – You will decorate something of your choice (a leather pouch, a coaster, a scroll, a cloth panel) following a theme assigned.
• Edible – Brew something, bake something, make something edible. Keep in mind people with allergies and provide an ingredients list.

The competition will be judged by People’s Choice, with our Baron and Baroness votes counting double.

First place in a category = 5 pts, 2nd place = 3pts, 3rd place = 1pt. You can get 1 extra point for documentation.

Knewbie Knockabout assignments are:
• Open Category – All Fool’s Day theme
• Functional Item – make something from leather
• Decorative Item – decorate something with spring flowers
• Edible – any SCA period edible

Registration: $12 for Non-Members with a $5 Member Discount, children 18 and Under are free. Please make checks payable to Shire of Wintermist/SCA, Inc.

From the South—Make your best way to I-5 headed North, continue onto Highway 99 (NOT I-5), Exit 26A from Highway 99 North, keep left at the fork towards Buttonwillow (58 West); Turn Right on Fruitvale Avenue; Left onto Downing Avenue, Right on Coffee Road, and finally a left on Riverlakes Drive. Entrance to the Park is on the left hand side. From the North—Make your best way to Highway 99 South, exit 31 from Highway 99 (7th Standard Road), Turn Left onto 7th Standard Road, Left onto Coffee Road, and a final Right on Riverlakes Drive.
